Coldstream has a long tradition of weddings. In the 19th Century Coldstream rivalled Gretna Green for weddings where the Scottish laws were more lenient and couples could get married without their parents' consent. The charming 18th Toll house or Marriage house on the bridge, now a private dwelling still stands.
